    Ok I’ll have crack at answering you .
    Unfortunately speculative stocks are the worst hit in a severe market downturn , ability to raise funds for these stocks tends to dry up etc . Other “blue chip” stocks are also hit but not usually to the same degree .
    In my mind the actual most volatile times are when ( barring a black swan event ) the market is trying to decide if a “recession “ will occur or not !
    Hence wild swings etc
    Once a recession is announced then keep in mind that the average time frame for a recession is about 18 months ( if I recall reading that correctly) and that then creates very decent buying opportunities in long standing listed companies as the market is usually forward looking .
