There’s been persistent discussion among shareholders around a possible trading blackout for RAC staff since mid-2024, with speculation pointing toward regional deal negotiations. While I appreciate there are limits on what can be disclosed, I’d like to raise a broader question around RAC’s communication approach.
Dimerix (DXB), in a similar position, was able to publicly confirm the existence of non-binding offers well before finalising their regional deals. This helped set expectations, reduced market speculation, and built confidence that management was actively progressing commercial outcomes.
If RAC is at a comparable stage, what prevents us from making a similar disclosure, something factual and high level, like “RAC is currently engaged in active partnering discussions or reviewing non-binding proposals”? Such a statement wouldn’t compromise negotiations, but it would remove the ambiguity, winks, and nudges that dominate forums right now. More importantly, it would improve transparency and show leadership in communication.
As a long-term RAC and DXB investor, I ask this constructively and in good faith, how far can we go in updating the market while respecting commercial confidentiality?
