I personally don’t understand the rules around human ethics and many of them seem to be contradictory and patronising. You can be conscripted and sent of to fight in a war you oppose, but you can’t volunteer to willingly help medical science if some ethics committee member thinks otherwise? You can give people medals and social kudos for risking their life to save a dog from a burning building, but you can’t do the same for someone who volunteers in a drug trial? You can pay someone to risk their life to mine coal, but you can’t pay them to take 1/1000th the level of risk to be part of a clinical trial?
