Prostate cancer is fairly common, well studied and hence treatment methods mature. There are also support groups focused on it.
The best thing your mate can do is try to learn as much as he can, ask questions and learn about all the treatment modalities - surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy.
Important a family member or friend also attends appointments where possible. Can be daunting. I’ve found it helpful on the few occasions I’ve had someone good at taking notes with me.
