    Japan being Japan insists that you run special clinical trials in Japan first. These are not typically run until after launch in the USA (or elsewhere).

    China has started to do the same these days, but the size of the Chinese market now means that it can make sense to move up the trials in China and especially JV or sell off the Chinese rights separately.
