Dr T has addressed this in the past. Doxorubicin is another old drug that has long become a generic (note RAC would have commercial exclusivity of bisantrene for 7 years post FDA approval). The value proposition isn't bisantrene vs doxorubicin in terms of treatment cost (given the target/largest market for pharmaceuticals is the US - where insurers will be footing the bill) but that doctors won't be saving their patients from cancer only to kill them from heart failure.
I'm sure Dr T can provide a far more articulated response but the traffic today has been rather high and it might be missed.
