"Victorian Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said on Tuesday that Victorians were choosing between “heating or eating”.

“How on earth can that be the case in 2022?” he said. “Look we’ve got gas reserves in Victoria, we should be using more of them, the current government’s banned the use of that, I won’t, that’s the difference.”

But state Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio put the blame on NSW and Queensland.“The unprecedented demand for gas in NSW – who produce almost no gas of their own – has drawn down Victorian reserves, but AEMO advises that there continues to be sufficient gas to meet our needs,” she said.

By far the bulk of the gas processed in Victoria is from offshore fields in Commonwealth waters rather than in Victorian waters, while the state government had until recently banned all onshore gas."
