If you look at the earlier ponds, they seem to be like a rice paddy whereby the ponds are getting smaller and lower, must be designed to use gravity for the water flow and as they had 4 steps down, I would not be surprised if the process is repeated here.
It could also be explained by a process of natural elimination to retain the raw lithium product?
