A quick 101 strategy (not advice):
In a strong, confident, cashed up market, you buy whatever you can and sell it back for more over a short term, even if it's with borrowed money.
In a weak, fearful, cash strapped market, you sell whatever you can and buy it back for less over a short term, even if it's with borrowed shares.
