Just because you write the word "fact", doesn't make it so. I've listened to countless updates where management have advised that they aren't able to provide timelines for things that are outside of their control. It's not so much that a single estimate is off the mark (which certainly happens), it's the pattern of behaviour. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Oh and I've never used the word "broken promises" mate, I'll assume you used that for dramatic effect. Holes filled.
