Many people don't realise that lithium is not an energy source. It doesn't replace fossil fuels or any other energy source because it isn't one, and primarily lithium batteries for vehicles (and phones, power-tools etc) are fuelled by fossil fuels, primarily coal, and the global usage of coal is still rapidly expanding, particularly in China. Because of the increase in electric cars, the global consumption of coal is going up even more than it was before EVs were hitting the roads in relevant numbers. No doubt at some stage oil consumption will decrease, but currently the rate is still increasing and next year is universally projected to be the largest year of consumption ever, and while some analysts predict oil consumption will soon plateau, all agree coal is going to continue increasing for a long while yet. EVs are responsible for a reduction in oil consumption and an increase in coal consumption (which incidentally puts a lot more toxic pollutants into the environment than oil),
