Afaict the global sales of EVs (driving the bulk of Li battery demand) has seen a relatively smooth trajectory; it is the way that supply comes online (in coughs and spurts due to a mix of factors including development time, incentive pricing etc etc) that causes the whipsawing in supply v demand and pricing that we see.
Will be interesting to watch the volatility evolve as the entire market grows considerably larger.
