    This is a good question........

    First point iIts not Galan changing the assumptions. The independent consultant has the call here in these analysis. If he was'nt comfortable, he would not use that assumption. Quite often they will start ultra conservative in earlier analysis and as more data comes in, this is the idea of infill drilling, and getting more and more cores to analyse, they will revise the assumptions if it is justified.

    To determine porosity they take slices of the drill core and subject it to saturation analysis. They take slices from the different lithological zones. Galan used Specific yield (SY) values as follows: Sand – 23.9%, Gravel – 21.7%, Breccia – 8% and Halite – 3%. So key point here is the study didn't apply 23.9 % across the the entire lithological column but to the sand zone of the drill cores and by extraploation to the sand zone within our boundaries.

    Your query prompted me to go and do a tad of research. Sal de Vida springs to mind as a good analog also being on that same salar and Allkem (previously Gxy actually did very thorough scientific work on their projects). I found this on page 146 of their NI 43-101 Technical Report for the project. You can see how they have broken up the lithology and applied values. Note their drill cores didnt show pure Sand like Galan's did and even their sand had more silt through it which has the lowest porosity value, hence their highest yielding zone was 13.1 %. Galan sand must have been more clean so to speak having an absence of clay ( so this material absorbs very little), hence the higher figure.

    Now that technical report done by Galaxy before it was merged into Allkem , Alex Stewart labs played a key role, re-testing all the internal work Galaxy's own engineering staff did. If your read the Galan annoucement, they too used Alex Stewart laboratries ;

    "A total of 236 brine assays were used as a foundation of the estimation, all of which were analysed at Alex Stewart International laboratory (Jujuy)."

    So we have not used amateurs to get their figures but reputable folk used by other much bigger and more advanced developers then we are. In the appendix Galan also make the point they benchmarked the specific porosities for each zone against other projects as well for reasonableness.
