I understand your point and this was my position as well a couple of years back, before finding the statistics about Tesla batteries, lasting much longer than usual laptop or phone batteries.
Yes, the ROI for the storage batteries is probably around 10 years, UNLESS you are participating in the energy market and get income from there; and this may be really profitable. This is what Sonnen is betting on.
