It’s a good question and GeForce is right - we won’t know until we drill.

From what I understand as a non-expert, as the alluvials are deposited they become a sort of sand filter so the water moving downstream becomes clearer, with only the suspended minerals like calcium, magnesium, lithium etc getting through. When this stuff evaporates it forms the halite that you see in the western part of the salar. I believe that concentrations in the halite are typically higher, hence in the West you see surface samples of ~1000ppm lithium (and higher as you go down). The downside to halite is it sets harder - like gypsum - so the porosity is lower and you get the brine in pockets.

In the east the brine is largely held in alluvials and concentrations are lower - like the 700-800ppm that galaxy were finding at depth.

Based on our proximity to gxy and the comparable depths, knowing the way the salar formed I’m expecting to see similar result at candelas to the southern parts of SDV.

But then who knows, there’s clearly a big reservoir down there that predates the surrounding ignimbrite, so maybe it’s an old part of the halite salar.

Time will tell. The short story is I can’t imagine how there could be nothing in that brine body. Basic physics says if it’s continuous with gxy it should be very similar.
