Lithium carbonate prices in China surpassed those for lithium hydroxide in the week ended Thursday September 23, with spot availability still limited and demand firm.

• Chinese lithium prices continue to trend higher on tight availability, firm demand.
• Spot tightness also supports seaborne Asian prices.
• European, US lithium prices track the upward momentum in Asia.

Prices for battery-grade lithium carbonate in China continued to make strong gains in the past week, with spot levels in the domestic market surpassing that for the equivalent grade of lithium hydroxide.
Fastmarkets’ assessment of the lithium carbonate 99.5% Li2CO3 min, battery grade, spot price range, ex-works domestic China was 175,000-190,000 yuan ($27,082-29,403) per tonne on Thursday, up by 15,000-20,000 yuan (10.61%) per tonne from 160,000-170,000 yuan per tonne a week earlier. The price has posted double-digit gains for the past four weeks.
