On the self-driving side, EV are really matching the requirements as we might see "Roomba" like taxis which will be able to park themselves to a station and charge automatically when the battery is getting low.
This can't be done (not easily) if they need to fill up a tank, whichever option is used, gasoline, gas or hydrogen.
