I keep the history... We had a little bit of an increase in shorting on the 26th (234k on the daily short report which was 11% of all trade) which will show up on the cumulative ASIC report sometime tomorrow (which is what you see on shortman). Only a portion of this 234k will make it through as some will have been covered on the same day - but probably most of it will come through. These reports are not perfect but their accuracy is good enough (i.e. data issues might persist for one to two days but tend to be resolved pretty quickly).



I suspect it was Morgan Stanley, yet again, as they just happen to have an increase in selling volume on the same day.



I noticed that they seem to have done a little bit of short covering as we moved up to $1.50 - but not a lot. Interesting that they chose to add to their shorts at $1.20 rather than at $1.50 which might mean that it's either not a high conviction strategy or perhaps it's just a hedge. Though it wasn't put on like a hedge (i.e. the price was moving up when they put on their 1.8m short position well after the July low).


Anyway, nothing to worry about - just a point of interest really. Almost everything is getting shorted to some extent in this market. It's only a concern when it starts moving above 1% of SOI.
