What you're missing is that amounts of lithium in a battery usually refer to just the pure lithium, but these prices are not for pure lithium, they are for lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate. The amount of lithium carbonate in an EV battery is about 50kg to 100kg. Something like 5 to 10% of the price of an EV is just for the lithium. EV's will never be competitive with ICE vehicles with such a weight hanging over them, a good $5k of the price is nothing but pure profit to lithium producers. But as an investor in lithium producers, yay money!
