Lithium Chloride may not be a raw material for long. Both Toyota and Samsung are now claiming to have cracked the challenges for the mass assembly of solid state batteries and will start introducing them from 2027.
Solid state is a total game-changer. EVs will have a range of 1.000 km and be able to charge in 10 minutes. The electrolytes will be made from solid lithium metal which in turn is made using lithium chloride, not carbonate or hydroxide. I know of at least one other brine development project which is now also considering going the carbonate route.
