I am well aware of how the company has grown over the past few years into what it is today. I recall first listening to Phil speak in late 2018 at a conference in Perth discussing the downstream processing of graphite into value added products. After all the Management Team along with their partners at Battery Limits are experts in the downstream processing space.
What has changed since 2018 is that the availability / pricing / forecasting of raw material feedstock doesn't look at rosey as what it did 4-5 years ago. I am sure companies like IG6 (And many others) were mapping out future plans believing that the purchasing / availability / pricing of raw material flake would be at reasonable prices.
That is no longer the case I am afraid, flake prices are on the incline (Particularly fines + small flake suitable for battery anode material) + shipping is on the incline. It is now critical for downstream processing companies (Like IG6 was planning to be) to get into the Mining Space (Which is the key reason for the Springdale Acquisition)
I mean do you really want to be purchasing Fines + Small Flake at ~US$1,000/t in a year or two ? or would you prefer to have your own feedstock that you are capable of producing for $400-$500/t ???
Phil already knows the answer to this question, hence why the company pivoted last year to acquire its own feedstock !
