Maybe you are right and they are covering the ponds to keep everything at its current state. it doesn't show up on the satellite pictures that people put up sporadically, bit it could be clear covers.

also, why spend the money making ponds in the first place? its just spending money earlier then you have to, then spending more money again to cover and maintain them. People often comment that JZ is tight with the finances so either, they thought that:

1. they would be processing around 2000t per year by now when they built the ponds
2. They can efficiently store the concentrated brine for later use


it doesn't feel right, or as a politician would say, doesn't pass the pub test.

anyway, i need to think about this some more.
