It's also about a company being made, growing steadily, responsibly, so that some are effectively employed, others receive goods or a service which they are willing to pay for. As Jaknap says "with great power comes great responsibility." If you are putting money into a company it isn't only about seeing returns increased. That's not being emotional about the shares, but about leaving some cream in there for the next bloke.
Think of yourself as owning a small part of a company and see whether you would want someone to know how quick they could get the most out of what you are putting together. Patience and you will be rewarded.
