Your friend doesn't seem stupid just needs an education on not setting stop losses to high.
Either way it's not stupid people selling its people freeing up some capital to fund there life style or service there home loans for the next 12 -18 months, there's still a significant amount of holders who purchased sub 10c so they would be selling at a profit.
Nobody expects anything significant from ALC until next year so set your buy orders from anywhere between 8.5 and 10.5 and go take up a hobby for the next 3 months.
