If someone finds gas over east and sells gas in the domestic market it will not be converted to LNG, but sold as natural gas and transported via the pipeline network there. Chevron and Woodside in WA sell natural gas into the domestic market via the gas pipleine that goes from Dampier to Bunbury, over 1000km in length, and sell LNG to export markets.

The embarrassment here with that article is simply Australia with a lot of natural gas, the problem with the eastcoast here I am referring to as WA has had a reservation policy since the mid 2000s, have allowed it all to be exported as LNG and thus face a gas shortage hence were hoping to buy LNG of the international market - but given supply constraints will end up paying an arm and a leg for it. So anyone with a project that can export LNG and also sell gas into the domestic market are going to be well off - and so you know the cost of selling natural gas into the domestic market are far less than the cost of producing LNG and then regasifying it before putting it into the pipeline network. Posted on this in Post #: 65918499 For BAS it is about finding gas.
