North Carolina will be the epicentre of the lithium industry in the United States but it has a few issues.
The state has a long history of lithium mining but it was abandoned decades ago.
The Kings mine was shut down with no intention to reopen it. It is currently full of water.
Restarting lithium mining in North Carolina is proving to be difficult, ask Piedmont.
In nearby Bessemer City, Livent has a lithium hydroxide plant but it does not have locally produced feedstock and won’t have until lithium mining recommences in North Carolina (which it seems is several years away).
The only stockpile of SC anywhere in North America at this time, is that produced by NAL.
Is the US government happy to sit back and wait for the near moribund lithium industry in North Carolina to make a miraculous recovery, (taking years) or would they like something more immediate to fill the gap?
Do we need to fly blimp over the Port of Quebec with a neon sign saying “spod for sale, all offers considered?”
