Macro rules everything. You can be invested in the greatest company BUT if the market is turning down in a big way, then all companies get smashed. If shorters are getting involved, it's because they can see what is coming. They're not the cause here, they're just along for the ride.

It's a top down approach to investing. People who don't use this are destined for mediocre returns at best. They give up all of their gains in a bear market.

Smart people go shopping during sales. Not only do they buy cheaply, but they buy the best merchandise.

An analogy:

You and your mates are playing monopoly. You've accumulated the best properties on the board. You're acting smug. And why shouldn't you be?
Well...because, you are ignoring the fact that you are playing monopoly sat on a life raft which is floating down river and is now near a big waterfall. Enjoy the game!
