I watched the full video several times through. A couple things that I will say as a backdrop to my knowledge on this.

1. I live in the United States, I lived in the southern united states for over 25 years prior to moving north. The US as a whole would have this same outrage to a mining project in their backyard, it does not matter if it was done perfectly, we have all been shown videos starting in elementary school from a young age that shows the horrors that the coal mining industry has left behind. Those images are very ingrained and not many people will ever see the industry differently.

2.This meeting was not ever going to be about public support, it was plastered on FB days before for people to come out and protest so I am not surprised that a crowd of people showed up with pitch forks and torches.

3. I also have a cousin who specializes in environmental engineering. He has traveled the globe to many industrial and manufacturing sites to do 1 of 2 things. Prevent environmental damage or be an expert on what needs to be done to clean up after an environmental disaster. He and I speak often, he lives in Charlette NC and knows the people and politics of the area quite well. He is also heavily invested in PLL. He watched the entire video and even knows some of the people. He and I spoke after individually watching the video to compare our thoughts.

With all this in mind, my feeling is this. The damage of not speaking with the community can be repaired, people want to be heard and listened to. Piedmont should reach out and offer to do community education, they should take every concern in and deal with it in a responsible manner. My cousin said the biggest mistake made by Piedmont was going to peoples homes and taking pictures and also reaching out to try and purchase property all before having a comprehensive presentation that they could all be a part of. This is a small southern community, people talk to their neighbors all the time, without having a presentation they start rumors, and inaccurate statements and fear. It could have been avoided by doing a community out reach series that helped people understand better. You for sure will still have people who will never change their minds about mining, but having a clear view of the issues would have lessened the impact. My cousin said he has attended many of these type events in his career and felt this one was fairly mild compared to some he has attended.

The damage done by not coming to speak with the commissioner prior to now can also be overcome, they even said "we want to do business" Each one of the commissioners had a set of questions they needed answered. Piedmont should be in their office weekly if not daily addressing these issues until there is no longer any question to be answered.

Winning the commissioners back and the community will take time, I believe Piedmont should trash their original timeline immediately and the new timeline should be more geared to meeting community milestones. They should collect concerns, address concerns and then begin their project timeline. I believe this could add 18 to 24 months to their proposed start date, but not doing this could mean they will never have a start date.

Your original question was do I think this will effect Sayona negatively. My gut feeling is no. I think regardless of anything going on with Piedmont Sayona has a great project. I believe piedmont was going to always be passing Sayona's spodumene directly to Tesla in TX, we will likely ship to TX and invoice NC. This allows Piedmont some income and us as well. Piedmont also has a secondary source of spodumene from Africa that they can do the same thing with. This part of the business plan actually works very much in piedmonts favor. I feel like there will be a vigorous effort to get Sayona up and producing spodumene quickly and follow on as fast as they can to hydroxide production. This will give piedmont time to get the community issues corrected without needing to keep coming back to shareholders for a CR.

Lastly - the presentation Keith gave was fantastic. I thought it answered a ton of the questions before the event even started. I have gone back and listened to several other Q and A segments and the people who work with Keith seem to know what they are talking about. Brian had a very concise explanation of the multiple source of water at the site and how they would be dealt with. A lot of thought has gone into this project, the problem is that no one in the community had been given this knowledge.
