For every motorist that wants an EV with a range of 500 km, there are thousands that will not.
It has been my experience owning a PHEV, that I seldom exceed the EV range of my vehicle (60 km) in my normal driving.
There are times when I do several trips in one day that do exceed the range but I usually can top up at home between trips,(others could do it at work or while shopping).
It is not unlike what you would do to keep your mobile phone charged.
Those that do want 500km range will have to pay for it, which is fine if that is what you need.
