I more or less agree with you, Wallaby. Trump is a political/entrepreneurial phenomenon that only America could produce and then only in a millennium. His philosophy and indeed negotiating style, is crash through or crash and he does not take a step backwards. The enormous tariffs that he unilaterally initiated and which have caused economic chaos are only the beginning of his plan for American economic Western domination and American prosperity through massive expansion of its home grown manufacturing and production businesses along with ensuring that the American dollar remains the pre-eminent world currency. And after their initial outrage and retaliation the major Western economies including Europe have, or soon will, start to blink and make concessions along the lines demanded by Trump as they are finding out that to shirt front Trump is the equivalent of head butting a brick wall. At this point Trump will gradually reduce or cancel his tariffs and bring back a trade environment that is weighed in America's favour. So, in my view, after the dust settles down there will be a beneficial economic outcome for most Western economies in general and America in particular which will not only rival the economic post war boom of the 1950's but exceed it.
