1. Brought in Lucas Dow who is an absolute champion operator.

2. (In large part because they brought in Lucas Dow who Piedmont obviously sees as an absolute champion operator) convinced Piedmont to end the unworkable arrangement at NAL by merging with Sayona and having Keefy Phillips step away from operational duties.

3. Began negotiations with the Quebec government for MergeCo to vary the unworkable requirement for it to go downstream in Quebec. LD is dead right that a relatively small outfit like MergeCo cannot be a jack of all trades - in the current circumstances lithium miners struggle to be miners let alone also be chemicals manufacturers.

4. Attracted and retained Sylvain Collard to be point man in Quebec. SC seems to be another absolute gun operator. When the wheels started falling off a lot of people with solid bios would have walked away so it is a credit to SC and to the company that he has stuck at the task.

5. Used the merger exercise as an opportunity to build a solid buffer of cash which might even see MergeCo through the fallow times.

6. Zeroed in on what they largely can control - unit costs - and focused not so much on what they have little control of - lithium prices.

I have no idea whether Sayona / MergeCo will make it through the tempest the lithium sector currently is enduring. But I rate LD and SC and reckon they and their team are having a red hot crack at seeing it through. I can understand a lot of people would not be attracted to what Sayona / MergeCo offers. So be it, but they are not my keeper.
