“In 2024, global electric vehicle (EV) sales reached approximately 17.1 million units, according to data from Rho Motion, a leading EV research firm. This figure includes both fully electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), reflecting a 25% increase from the 13.6 million units sold in 2023. Other sources, such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), had projected sales to hit around 17 million, aligning closely with this outcome. The surge was largely driven by China, which accounted for 11 to 11.2 million of these sales, while the USA contributed 1.3 million and the UK added 382,000. This record-breaking year underscores the growing adoption of EVs worldwide, with electric cars making up more than one in five cars sold globally.”

Mr Grok says they bought 1.3 million out of 17.1 million worldwide.

That was in a year before tariffs were introduced.

I am not thinking sales in the US are going to grow by much if they have to pay more.

Even Tesla relies on foreign suppliers for much of what goes into their cars eg battery materials.

If MergeCo’s is forced to make choices, they would most certainly go to where the money is.

From what I can tell, that won’t be the USA.
