I fail to see how an EV is not already cheaper to build
China is now showing that it is and I guess aside from crashing battery prices, new construction methods its largely down to mass production, something most legacy manufacturers don't have, they are stuck between ICE and EV production with underutilized plants and most lumbered with huge debt.
The likes of BYD have the added advantage of producing their own batteries and most likely their own drive trains.
