On the ABC last night there was an article about EV take-up/purchases. Titled "Range Anxiety". We don't have enough re-fuelling stations around Australia yet, and that will have to change to encourage EV conversion from regular fuelled cars. The article used WA as an example that despite there being around 500 refueling stations that most of them are located in highly populated areas. Here is the written article from the ABC and the actual verbal news article mentioned other things. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-17/range-anxiety-hinders-electric-vehicle-take-up-in-wa/100527038
There are 2 deterrents currently
- It takes about 15 minutes to charge up at a refueling station and up to a couple of days if charged at home.
- The range fully charged is between 250 to 500 km which is a deterrent, and using WA as an example where travel deeper into the state is prohibitive for EV's
This is where the Swap and Go concept might work https://energypost.eu/energy-conversion-for-hydrogen-cars-is-only-half-that-for-bevs/ swapping a Lithium Car battery takes around 15 minutes and of course this will have to be paid for.
As for Hydrogen Fuelled cars range "The latest generation Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric vehicles can now travel further than many other electrified vehicles. For instance, the latest generation Toyota Mirai can power you 650 km on a single tank of hydrogen, emission-free. Refueling its hydrogen tanks takes less than five minutes, meaning once you’re on the open road you enjoy an unrivaled combination of high performance and long-distance, zero-emission motoring". https://www.toyota-europe.com/world-of-toyota/electrified/fuel-cell/what-is-the-range-of-a-hydrogen-car
Conversion to EV vehicles is driven by consumer market sentiment, both types of batteries have pros and cons.
I keep my mind open and keep myself well informed. I make no assumptions or opinions but refer to evidence-based research. Hope some of this helps others. I am an LTH and heavily invested in SYA for the long term the company has a bright future.
