I am relatively new myself but a bit more cynical. I don't think many people panic sell, it's all calculated. If you have the time, skills, and resources, you can make a lot of money whatever direction the market is going. I have none of that so I buy stock that has reasonable potential (research the crap out of it) and hold for what feels like forever!
