I don’t understand what illegal shorting is?
I personally use interactive brokers to trade and invest and they offer the ability to short many stocks listed on the asx. Iv shorted a few stocks myself and it in no way influences the share price of those companies. By shorting your just betting against the market, if the share price goes up you lose money same as if you own the shares and it goes down.
General market sentiment both TA & FA determine what the share price does, all we can do in the meantime is decide to go long or short. We are all just gambling when it comes down to it.
