Lean manufacturing concepts teach that there are 8 forms of waste, and you should strive to eliminate these wastes.
Within this chart I can pick out several that are in the current supply chain.
1. Transportation - this one is easy based on the Tesla Video this one is easy to see
2. Inventory - because things are made so far apart and it is difficult to know exactly when you will get your next shipment, companies tend to keep a large inventory. When the supply chain moves more local this practice can get eliminated.
3. Waiting - this occurs when #2 fails or is underestimated, or when an event occurs.
4. Overproduction - again because of distance between steps companies will tend to overproduce, when the supply chain is within a 1 day window this practice can be eliminated.
Trust me when I say that every auto company in the US will have already spent many hours trying to figure this out. Quebec is just going to hand it to them on a silver platter. Battery hub = Lean.
