dude. the shorters are mostly day trading. the near 10% registered shorts are not all open positions. I'd guess most of these guys hold their stocks over night and pip trade some throughout the day.

there seems to be a common misconception that the reported short figures are total shares shorted in the market. where in fact I think this is just the number of stocks loaned to short.

we saw a situation recently where short figures reduced dramatically, more than the shares trades that day, to me evedent that they were just returned rather than shorters buying back in.
