I agree with you that there is almost no chance that the institutional investors are getting burnt, you're spot on. But then what are the plausible scenarios in which they can close their shorts out effectively? The only 2 things that come to mind are poor numbers going into production or a global recession. Negative sentiment can run rampant with both of those and you'd have a similar situation to the LKE shorts. This is only if we're thinking in the conventional sense of opening short positions, the other possibility is that they are being used in a similar manner to what SB has alluded to previously
