Indeed they are different companies ... but
CATH (or more specifically Suzhou CATH Energy Technologies) is a private equity company that is jointly owned by CATL and Pei Zhenhua (who surprise surprise made his fortune at CATL).
CATL indeed is behind the funding of AVZ and looks like a battle between 2 Chinese companies for control (the other being Zijin Mining)
