Don't like the idea of shorting as its not an investment and strive for growth, rather its profiteering off poor performance or ramp up issues etc...

I dont think it should be banned though. You shouldnt be able to dictate what people do with their money.
We saw enough of this with the rent moratoriums during COVID. I felt like walking down to parliament house and saying, hey you knuckleheads. Seeing as you have capped my rental income, I am putting a cap on all of your salary income. How does that make you feel.

We dont tell gambles they cant gamble, alcoholics and smokers they cant smoke or drink. Government does try to curb it with taxes though. Perhaps they could create a shorting tax?
If an opportunity to make money exists people will always chase it and you will always also get the few that try to exploit it.
