If everybody in Australia had a electric car where would the electricity come from to recharge them...??coal of course..

If everyone in Australia owned an electric car tomorrow then you would be right but thats not the case.
If everyone owned a car in Australia in 20years time that wouldn't be the case although coal would likely still play a diminishing part.
An ICE car will always guzzle hydrocarbons in some form and spew them out wherever they are an EV will always guzzle electricity but that can come from a variety of sources not just coal and its that option that doesnt exist for an ICE vehicle.

A solar system combined with a storage system can have most of the average city driving requirements done from home thats just one of many examples where the grid demand gets lowered. Australia has huge potential with solar and wind and electricity storage systems are advancing continuously.
This is all about decreasing the use of hydrocarbons in transport not necessarily eliminating them although that would be the ultimate aim. Anyone not embracing that concept isn't thinking of their children or grandchildren or their own wellbeing, there is no benefit sniffing fumes...

Never underestimate humans ability to adapt and innovate if they feel the cause is worthwhile but like all disruptive transitions it will take time .
