The thing that most people failed to mentioned is that when it comes to emerging technologies in any industry, it’s highly subsidised and supported by the Chinese government.
The speed, adoption and fundings are unheard of in the western world.
It’s also true that around 70% of lithium conversion happens in China, and the Chinese are at least 5-10 years ahead of us, nevertheless don’t forget they have learnt the technology from the western world (us).
China’s moto is to copy then innovate, they have been doing so for the last 50 years and they are winning because they play the long games, “win the WAR not the battles”.
On the other hand, Quebec has the resources, the skillset, people, hydropower, and in recent years the government funding and endorsement to kickstart a whole new locally vertically integrated mining industry in Canada.
If it works, Canada and the US economy will stand to benefit from this new emerging market - energy transformation, and it just the beginning, just like the first locomotive, internal combustion engine and the first computer and World Wide Web.

it won’t happen overnight, but it will eventually, mark my words on it.
