But that just improves the amount of variability in the shareprice (beta) on a daily basis which makes trading for a 5% gain every few days if you time it right.

I am doing the same on the another stock , I hold a large amount of it , but I also hold a small trading position as well of around 3% of my holding which I buy and sell every couple of days and make around 5 to 12% each time I trade it .
I admit the stock I trade has positive cash-flow which reduces down side unlike AJX.
