cos basically when u transfer them out of computershare u r no longer the recorded owner of the shares.... (think custodian/beneficial in aussie.... like IG or IB brokers use here where they are the recorded share owners and u r not)..... that is the effective result of moving the shares out of the direct registration system used by computershare.
whoever is the westpac broker in the US they have no interest in something that is not tradeable/lendable, a tiny dollar amount or has money owing on it..... hence they generally do not want them.
