22 year old afl player daniel venables has retired today after a terrible concussion in mid 2019. He went through multiple brain bleeds afterwards, migraines, no sleep, headaches 24/7, pressure in his head and he is still nowhere near being back to normal. Unfortunately for him i think the damage thats been done to his brain will be permanent. Now this begs the question, how much longer will contact sports allow no form of preventative medicine or prophylactic to be administered to these players before every match. This is really a no brainer at this stage. If traumatic brain injury and cte can be reduced in any way shape or form then it should be urgently addressed and ihl have a candidate for this exact reason. These players risk it all for our entertainment and the least the afl can do is provide them with some form of protection. I belive ihl-42x will be that preventative and protective medicine that these athletes so urgently need.
