Maybe.
The news seems to be indicating Omicron is significantly milder than Delta. If so, epidemiologically this could be the best news we could hope for. A variant that could become dominant through greater transmissibility and/or immune system evasion, but that is trending milder, is the path to a world where living with covid19 resembles normalcy.
An interesting couple of weeks ahead...
