The sad death of another miner at the Q Coal Byerwen mine North of Bowen Coal, has resulted in a two week shutdown as it is the second fatality in a month there. Investigations.
The Byerwen mine is a big one, producing about 10 million t.p.a. or about 200k tons a week.Mainly coking. That means 3-4 100 wagon trains a day. A 2 week shutdown will cut about 60 trainloads out of the system on this line. It will also I mean gaps in ship loading, which are prepaid and pre-booked. The loading is on a take or pay basis.
This might be a break for BCB to arrange some extra trainloads and shiploads from the working capital squeezing stockpile, using a proportion of these slots with some compensation to Q coal, which is a better outcome than nothing for them. This could be a game changer for the quarter? Its an Ill wind that blows no-one some good, as the old saying goes.
