Another string added to the bow in the relationship between Western Australia and South Korea, with the signing of a research and development MoU to enhance the State’s chemical battery industry.
I was pleased to be at the ceremony in Seoul to see the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) sign a MoU with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM). Media statements - South Korean agreement to bolster WA’s battery chemical industry
The MoU will focus on research and development across the entire mining value chain with a particular focus on critical minerals.
Leading edge research and development will be key to Western Australia continuing to be a destination of choice for midstream processing of battery and critical minerals from our rich endowment of natural resources.
This was the message emphasised at the InterBattery 2023 Conference, Seoul, where Western Australia was well represented at Australia’s Future Battery Supply Chains Seminar.Western Australia’s importance to global supply of critical and battery minerals was acknowledged at the conference and I have no doubt the State is well positioned to capture more of the value chain.

Thank you to the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) team on the ground in North Asia – Nicole Fasana, Jess Ahn and Ryan Yi – and the Australian Embassy/Austrade in South Korea for facilitating fruitful meetings with South Korea’s leading steel, car and battery manufacturers, we look forward to tightening the relationship in the future.
It is about potential cooperation with the following companies: Australian Embassy, Austrade, LG Energy Solutions, LG ESS, SK On, Hyundai Motor, LX International, POSCO, KOMIPO, Samsung C&T, EcoGraf, KIGAM, Money Today News, Chosun Biz, Energy Business

    Ecograf was present as well!
