    Toyota sold around 100k of EV's in 2023. They had a plan to grow EV sales by 1,500% by 2026 (to 1.5m EV's). "The cut its EV target for 2026 by a third." you reference is a amending its planned 3-year growth target for EV sales in 2026 to 1,000% growth to 1m EV's (in 3 years).

    Personally I struggle to see how a major company like Toyota planning for 1,000% growth in 3 years is proof that people don't want EV's. What I see it as is proof that there are a lot of people with vested interests against either EV's, Batteries, Lithium or change from an oil based transport economy. For example shorters have billions of dollars invested in short positions on lithium stocks. Oil companies have a lot to lose if EV's take off. Both of these mean there's a lot of false and slanted media out there.
